Working Group 42

WG42: designs, publishes, and distributes

The group designs and publishes infrastructure technologies and licenses for the distribution and storage of assets in digitally abundant environments. Its work focuses on creating open specifications and supporting tools and software that enable resilient, federated systems capable of moving and preserving content at scale while remaining independent of any single point of failure or proprietary control.

Guided by a commitment to freedom and authenticity, the group produces the foundational designs that partner commercial companies and organizations then implement and operate. By concentrating on clear, durable specifications rather than development itself, Working Group 42 ensures that the resulting systems can remain open, verifiable, and durable in the digital environment.

In Progress

  • microserve
A novel webserver supporting federated content distribution and embedded preservation technologies. The server is designed for research and development purposes and is used for experimentation and further development, testing, and evaluation of new features and technologies. The server is a dual-network stack, supporting HTTP/1.1, HTTP/2, and HTTP/3 protocols. The code will be soon available under the BSD 3-Clause License.
  • asset tool collection
A complete toolkit for composition, management, distribution, preservation, signing, and authentication of digital content. The tools will be soon available under the TEK Public License 1.0 and aimed to be the backbone of both server-side content operations and desktop composition programs.
